Reedsburg Area Medical Center and Beam Healthcare



Reedsburg Area Medical Center uses the Qvera Interface Engine to exchange information and contracts
with MC Integration Solutions to develop and maintain their integrations. Beam Healthcare joined RAMC
to provide their Hospitalist and Telemedicine services. This project involved the integration of
numerous electronic medical records including Evident, GE Centricity, and Epiphany Healthcare to Redox
and DrChrono.

This project was to assist Reedsburg Area Medical Center (RAMC) with their new telemedicine program
with Beam Healthcare. It involved transferring clinical data from RAMC’s Evident (CPSI) EMR to Beam
Healthcare’s DrChrono EMR and receiving a telemedicine consult document back into Evident.

The DrChrono specifications required the clinical information to be sent in a Clinical Care
Document(CCDa) structure. The Evident EMR does not have the capability to produce and send this
type of document on demand, so we used information from Evident database queries and Hl7 messages
to construct and trigger the CCD to Beam when an order for consult is placed or when the patient is
admitted to the hospital. This clinical document was designed using HL7 International CCD standards
and consists of patient role, allergies, medications, problem list, vital signs, and past
medical/surgical history. It also can be triggered at preset time intervals to provide updated
inpatient data such as administered medications, ancillary orders/results, procedures, and most
recent vitals.

We worked with Beam’s Interface team (Redox) and a representative from HL7 international to test
our document, and because of Qvera’s easy to use programming, we were able to make instant changes
during the testing calls based on the feedback they provided, until the document met their

We also developed a patient matching algorithm to search for and provide the most recent clinic
summary document from RAMC’s GE Centricity EMR and send this along with our Evident document.

During testing, Redox found DrChrono was not able to take in the lab results as discrete data
normally found in a lab result HL7 message, so we took the Evident HL7 and converted the results to
a PDF document, and sent that to Redox to import into DrChrono so the providers would have that
information as well.

The Beam providers also requested access to RAMC’s ECG images, which are stored in their Epiphany
Healthcare Cardioserver software system. We set up an interface to receive the HL7 message from
Epiphany with the file location of the image and replace the file location sent in the message with
the PDF image to transmit to Beam.

This project presented some interesting challenges and we are happy to report that we developed a
solution for each challenge.
